I wrote this blog entry maybe to myself only. But I do hope someone out there would find something interesting. It has been almost a year or two now that I focus on only one keyword "Cambodia". I spent my nights and days to collect information and share via my social profiles such as Twitter and Facebook.
Tyan Young from cambodianallianceforthearts.com has done an interview with me. I like a lot of what she wrote about me. It is not true 100% but I am happy to read it.
She wrote:
Meet Santel. He runs a social media blog about Cambodia and always knows what’s going on in his country. If it happened, more than likely it’s on his blog. He’s smart, talented, determined and loves his country!
I was born and grown up in Cambodia all along the years. Maybe this is normal if I love my country. Everybody does love their country. But there is also something interesting to hear from the foreigners and Cambodian who live oversea and come back to Cambodia for the very first time.
I recently read an analysis made by Donald Jameson, a former US diplomat. He mentioned about the reaction of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she visited Cambodia for the very first time.
He wrote something like this:
When US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Cambodia in late 2010, she told senior Cambodian government officials “this does not look like the country I have read about in the press.” Most first-time visitors to Phnom Penh would likely react similarly.
Cambodia has a magic. Once you put your feet on her land, you will never want to leave.
Steven Path, founder of Angkorone.com has planned to come to Cambodia for few years only. Until now he is still in Cambodia. I don't know how much success he has with his business in Cambodia but I like what he said in the video interview. He hopes to "play a small role" in Cambodia.
Sopheap Pich, artist of Bamboo, also came from US. He hesitated for his first two years when he first arrived in Cambodia. But he didn't decide to go back to US and work in his mother's shop. He finally found his own creation to create art objects from Bamboo. He described very details in this video at one of his exhibitions.
Phloeun Prim, also planned to visit Cambodia only for one years. He didn't go back to finish his MBA. He stays and works in Cambodia. After working 10 years with artisan Angkor, he is now appointed as the first Executive Director of Cambodian Living Arts.
His speech at the TEDx Phnom Penh was a very good speech. He stayed in Cambodia for 10 years until he decided to go to a place where he was born. It's touching.
I hope at the bottom of your heart, there's also a place called "Cambodia".
