The Kratie Province features a couple of attractions that has particularly earned the city of Kratie a unique place as far as tourists are concerned. The city of Kratie is located on the banks of the Mekong River. The Kratie province is significant since it features one of the rarest species of dolphins, the Irrawaddy Dolphins, an Oceanic species found in the Mekong River, which are found in the South East Asian region. Unfortunately, the population of the species has lowered to dangerous levels, and special measures have been taken to preserve them by the local and international animal conservationist groups.

The best place in the country to spot those beautiful creatures is at the small village of Kampy, which is located just 15 kilometers from the city of Kratie. Although there are not a lot of Irrawaddy Dolphins left in the Mekong River, but a trip to Kratie can surely earn you a chance to watch the endangered species with your own eyes, and if you are good, perhaps you will be able to take a few dazzling photographs of these creatures. The Mekong River is the perfect habitat for this species and coincidentally, this particular spot seems to be their favorite.

But if you want to beat the heat of this tropical country, you can find the perfect relief in the Kampy Resort, which is not just known for the dolphins. One of the most important features of the Kampy Resort is the fact that it has very clear river water, which is considered ideal for swimming. Furthermore, Kampy Resort also offers the best amenities for tourists in the province and is a frequent destination for international tourists. The resort is particularly crowded during the Khmer New Year celebrations.

But there is a lot more to see in Kratie than just dolphins. The Phnom Sambok Resort is the main historical tourist attraction of the Kratie province. The resort is located in the Thmor Kre commune, which is found at a distance of 11 km from the Kratie city. The location is said to be the spot for a gold mine according to the local legend. The resort is located at the foot of Mount Sambok, which explains its name. The mountain top, which can be accessed via concrete steps, can offer some amazing views of the landscape, particularly that of the Mekong River, apart from the meditative points for legendary monks.

One of the most spectacular attractions in the Kratie province is The 100 Column Pagoda. The Pagoda is situated in the Sambour district of the province. The site features four Buddhist temples, which interestingly face four different directions. The pagoda is actually a memorial built in the early 19th century for the daughter of the King Preah Ang Chan Rhea II, who was killed by a crocodile. The grandeur of the architecture of the Pagoda surely attracts any tourist towards the site who learns about it. Apart from that, the well-preserved colonial architecture of Kratie is also worth-noticing.

A trip to Kratie can be very comfortable if you start your trip to Cambodia from Phnom Penh. Kratie is the most important destination in Cambodia for the tourists who are interested in the aquatic life of the region, particularly due to the presence of the Irrawaddy Dolphin in the Mekong River. Taking some time out to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience is worth all your energy, since this resort in Cambodia can offer you what you can never find anywhere else in the world.
